12 Ways to Show Your Cat You Love Them

Here are some important steps to show your Cat you Love them and ways to win the trust when meeting a new cat for the first time . . .

There are several common ways to communicate and show your Cat You Love them.  Cats say they love you all the time to humans if you recognize the signs.  Purring, head bonks, slow blinking, sleeping on you, kneading, showing their belly, rubbing their scent on you, grooming you, and leaving you gifts are some common ways that cats express their love for humans.  Here are some ways to communicate your love back to your cat.

12 Ways to Show Your Cat You Love Them

  1.  Slow blinking at a cat communicates that you love them.  Slow blinking is cat language to show some vulnerability and demonstrates you are comfortable with the cat.  A cat slow blinking at you means they trust and love you.   Make sure you fully close your eyes for a couple of seconds and totally relax as you slow blink at your cat.   Avoid staring at cats as Cats have instincts to avoid danger and predators.  They will not close their eyes if they feel they are in danger.
  2.  Bowing and nodding to your cat shows deference to you cat.  Bowing and slow blinking may be combined as one gesture to greet your cat.
  3. Present something with your scent to the cat.  Letting them smell your hand before petting them is a wise gesture when meeting and socializing with new cats.  Cats like to grant permission to a person to pet them.  If you have been around your cat for a long time, then you will know when they want to be petted.
  4. Petting and massaging your cat shows your love and helps to identify any matted fur.  Grooming and brushing your cat is another way to show your love and devotion to your cat.  Cats groom each other and mothers groom their kittens as a way of showing love.
  5. Many cats will lick and groom humans that they love.  Let them lick you and don’t move away to communicate that the love is mutual.
  6. Cats will often be vocal with their humans.  Talking and meowing back to your cat will be appreciated by your cat.  This is another means to interact with your cat.
  7. Show your Cat You Love them by creating a cat friendly home.  Enriching their environment with cat trees, cat beds, vertical spaces and plenty of window spaces will be appreciated by your cat.  Putting up bird feeders near a window to create cat TV is a great way to keep cats entertained.  Having a few beds in different places is valued by cats.  They like to move around and often sleep in different places.  They also value a high up perch with a cat bed where they can feel safe or have an escape available in the house.  Of course, empty cardboard boxes and grocery bags are often loved by most cats.

8.  Clean their litter box on a regular basis and make sure the litter box is accessible.   Many cats are clean freaks and do not like a dirty litter box.  Keeping their litter box in good shape is a way to show you care and love your cat(s).  You should also have at least one litter box for each cat.  Cats do not like to share litter boxes.

9.  Play and interact with your cats and give them their much needed exercise.  This creates a bond with your cat.   Cat laser toys and wand toys are great for interactive play with your cat.  Hiding treats and allowing your cat to hunt for treats is another game that your cat will love.

10.  Good nutrition and paying attention to quality food shows your love to your cat.  Most cats love meat and are natural carnivores.  Do some research and make sure the food you are providing is good for your cat.  If humans pay attention, it is easy to see what foods cats love versus other foods that they don’t like.  Make sure you provide healthy food and healthy treats.

11.  Cats will rub scent on their favorite humans.  This may include head bunting, sleeping on your lap, sleeping next to you, rubbing against you, and kneading on you.  Lean into the cat rub and allow your cat to show this type of affection.  If humans move or avoid contact, this is a sign of rejection to the cat expressing their love for you.

12.  Having two cats is another way to show your cat you love them.  Most cats prefer companionship and company of other cats.  This is even more important if the humans work outside of the home and are gone for several hours per day.  Cats keep each other company and this enables a readily available play companion.
