There’s no better feeling than petting a soft cat and listening to its gentle purring. Scientists still don’t completely understand how cats purr, but in our opinion, that makes the sensation all the more magical. Contrary to popular belief, cats don’t always purr out of pleasure. In fact, cats can manipulate their owners into giving them food and attention by purring in a variety of pitches.
Most purring noises are fairly soft and gentle. However, this is not the case for Merlin the cat. Merlin is a rescue cat from Torquay, Devon (UK). His claim to fame is his extremely loud purr that earned him a world record title. Merlin’s purr is said to be equivalent to the noise of a revving motorcycle engine. His powerful purr measured in at a whopping 67.8 decibels!
