Bengals are considered playful, gregarious, active cats with a generous dose of feline curiosity, full of life, and people-oriented. They are an athletic cat with great jumping and climbing ability.
In order to maintain a mild, docile disposition and a happy, stable pet cat, Bengals must have at least four generations (f4 or more) of domestic cat breeding. Both non-CFA associations have completely embraced the Bengal cat breed. Modern Bengals have shown that they are entirely domestic and no threat to anyone in the household and they have won over a fanbase with their wild spotted look and vibrant personality.
Many Bengal owners have reported that their cats love water. Some Bengals will tolerate wearing a leash and they like to go outside. Bengals are also quite vocal and will make sure you notice them when they want something. A Bengal will be vocal when it is time to eat or play. Bengals are good about self grooming and many Bengal are very social and they enjoy hunting and playing in packs. Bengals are highly intelligent and can be trained to perform tricks, walk on a leash, or even play fetch.
They are known to be vocal cats and love “talking” to their owners, using a wide range of meows, chirps, and growls to communicate. They are known for being affectionate towards their family members but can also be somewhat independent, often entertaining themselves if provided with stimulating toys.
These cats tend to reach full size within 18 – 24 months. Male Bengal cats typically weigh in the range of 10 – 16 pounds and females weigh in the range of 8 – 10 pounds. Bengal cats are typically 13 – 16 inches in height and 14 – 18 inches in length. As with most cat breeds, males tend to be larger than females. Large males can weight up to 22 pounds.
Healthy Bengal cats will tend to live in the range of 10 – 16 years.
Bengals come in a variety of colors including: Brown Spotted, Seal Lynx Point (snow), Sepia, silver, and Mink Spotted and Tabby Bengals. The coat patterns that are referred to as tabby markings include: ticked, mackerel, blotched, and spotted. The Bengal cat is the only domestic breed of cat that has rosette markings from their Asian Leopard cat heritage. Bengal eyes come in a wide range of colors and vary with fur colors and patterns.
