Bombay Cats Origin
The breed was developed by Nikki Horner, a breeder from Louisville, Kentucky, who, starting in 1958, attempted to create a breed of cat that resembled a miniature black panther. The first attempt was a failure, but the second, in 1965, was successful. The breed was officially recognized and registered by the Cat Fanciers’ Association in 1970 and The International Cat Association in 1979.
Bombay Cats Personality and Temperament
The Bombay cat personality is considered highly social, intelligent and people-driven. They can be classified as extroverted as they like to make their presence known. Bombay cats enjoy receiving lots of attention, so they do not do well with being left alone for an extended period of time. They are easy going and tolerant cats. Bombay cats have a loud purr and they are considered more vocal than many other breeds of cats.
Bombay Cats Size
The Bombay breed is considered a medium-sized cat. However, due to their muscular build, they oftentimes weigh more than they may appear. The average Bombay cat size can be anywhere from 8 to 15 pounds and around 13 to 20 inches in length. Males are generally larger than females.
